Biography
Molly O’Cathain is a Set and Costume designer based in Dublin, working across theatre, dance, and opera. She was the artist in residence at Mermaid Arts Center in 2021
Previous Set and Costume Design credits include Constellations (Gate Theatre, Dublin), Bajazet for Irish National Opera/Royal Opera House (Nominated for Oliver Award for Best Opera Production), The Wrens (Dan Colley), Haunted (THISISPOPBABY); The Playboy of The Western World (Dublin Theatre Festival/The Gaiety Theatre/The Lyric Belfast); It Was Easy (in the end) (The Abbey Theatre/THEATREclub); Minseach for Sibeal Davitt Dance, Ask Too Much of Me (National Youth Theatre), La Liberazione di Ruggiero (Royal Irish Academy of Music); Serious Money and The Ash Fire (The Lir); Mr Burns (Rough Magic). Costume Design credits include: An Octoroon at The Abbey Theatre, To The Lighthouse (Co-design, The Everyman/Hatch Productions), Shit (ThisIsPopBaby), Recovery (One Two, One Two). Set design credits include If Thes Wigs Could Talk (THISISPOPBABAY & Panti Bliss); Absent The Wrong (The Peacock Theatre) and Love Songs by Company Philip Connaghton.
Molly is a co-founder of Malaprop Theatre and the designer for their works to date including HOTHOUSE, Where Sat The Lovers, Before You Say Anything, Everything Not Saved, Jericho, BlackCatfishMusketeer and LOVE+.
Molly was the Production Design Assistant at The National Theatre (UK) in 2019-2020 where she assisted Bunny Christie on The Welkin and Fly Davis on Ocean at the End of the Lane. Other associate credits include The Snapper (Paul Wills/The Gate, Dublin) and Road (Chloe Lamford/Royal Court).
