Luciano di Martino

Biography

Luciano Di Martino was born in Italy where he began his studies of piano, composition and choral conducting. In 1996 he graduated in Conducting at the Hamburg University of Music and Drama with Prof. Klauspeter Seibel and specialized at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Ilya Musin, Myung-Whun Chung and Valery Gergiev.

He is guest conductor of the Hamburg State Opera, the Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Mariinsky Theater, the New Israeli Opera, the Sofia National Opera, the Nuremberg Opera House and the Washington Opera.

He has collaborated with the Orchestra of the Theatre du Capitole in Toulouse, the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, the Novosibirsk Philharmonic, the Hamburg Symphony, the Sofia National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra , the Filarmonica Marchigiana and the Tampere Philharmonic in Finland.

He has worked with singers such as Ghena Dimitrova, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Anna Netrebko, and has conducted concerts with soloists such as Leticia Moreno, Pepe Romero, Uto Ughi, Anton Barakhovsky, Plamena Mangova and Maxim Vengerov.

He regularly works with Choreographer John Neumeier and the Hamburg Ballet for all his new creations at the Hamburg State Opera.

He is currently the Artistic Director of the Plovdiv Opera House, where on the occasion of the appointment of the city's European Capital of Culture in 2019, he conducted the production of Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice directed by Stefano Poda.
