Biography
Frank Flade was born in Dessau, Germany. He studied choral and orchestral conducting in Berlin and Salzburg with Walter Hagen-Groll, Rolf Reuter and Dennis Russell-Davies.
From 1996 to 2000 he was artistic director of the university orchestra in Salzburg.
Flade then went to China for six months. There he conducted concerts with the Wuhan Symphony Orchestra and performances with the National Ballet of China. Since then, concert engagements have repeatedly taken him to China (Shanghai, Taiyuan, Xi’an, Beijing).
From 2001 to 2004, Frank Flade was engaged as a repetiteur and conductor at the Staatsoperette Dresden, and from 2004 to 2010 he was chorus master at Theater Aachen.
His engagement as second choir director at the Staatsoper Berlin began with the 2010/2011 season. Here he rehearsed the opera choirs for D.Barenboim (Tristan und Isolde, Wozzeck, 9th Beethoven), Z.Mehta (Aida), S.Rattle (From the House of the Dead, Katja Kabanova, Rosenkavalier), G. Dudamel (Figaro), I. Metzmacher (Rake’s Progress) and A.Nelsons (La Boheme, Madama Butterfly), among others.
Every season he conducted the Christmas Oratorio by J.S. Bach with members of the Staatskapelle Berlin.
As Artistic Director of the Concert Choir, he regularly conducted concerts with members of the Staatskapelle Berlin.
Frank Flade is currently working at the Halle Opera and Ballet.
