Dobrin Vekilov - Donny

Biography

Doni is born on the 7th of May 1967, in Sofia. He studied pharmacy at the National Academy of Medicine but his passion for music won. He studied singing from 1988 to 1992 under Maestro Stefan Atanasov and then specialized under Maestra Hristina Angelakova. He has been a professional musician since 1989. He began his career as a bass player and vocal in the “Atlas” and “Medicus” bands. He formed the Doni and Momchil duet together with Momchil Kolev. In the beginning of the 21st century, he performed together with his wife: Antoaneta Dobreva-Neti. Doni and Momchil were the first Bulgarian singers aired on MTV with their song “Blizhi si sladoleda”. Doni’s song, “Tired Wings”, entered the Netherlands “Billboard” top ten list. 

Doni is the music producer of the “Kato dve kapki voda” show and of the fifth season of The X Factor Bulgaria. During 2018 and 2019, he produced the sixth and seventh season of “Kato dve kapki voda”. In 2019, he was the music producer of the “Maskiraniat pevets” show. In 2020, he produced the eighth season of “Kato dve kapki voda” and the second season of “Maskiraniat pevets”.

At the start of 2013, he founded the super-band “The Foundation” with members Kiril Marichkov, Ivan Lechev, Slavcho Nikolov and Venko Poromanski. In 2013, they had lots of concerts in Bulgaria followed by a tour in the US and Canada. – “2020” – CD.

Doni has composed all his own hits and is the author of his own lyrics and music arrangements (with the exception of the “Kukla” song where he is the co-author of the song’s arrangement and the songs “The Little Prince” and “Blizhi si sladoleda” where he is the author of the lyrics and a co-author of the arrangements). Doni has performed in concert in Bulgaria, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Israel, France, the UK, Germany, Austria, Serbia, Spain, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Luxemburg, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Qatar, Dubai, Kuwait, the US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, India, Nepal and Tibet. – TBA – played in ten seasons starting from 2000 – “Edmund” – David Mamet – TBA 2000 – “Twelfth Night” – W. Doni is the youngest recipient of а prize for overall contribution to music: he won it in 2002 together with Momchil. Ten years later, (2012), the duet received the BG Radio Bulgarian inspirer prize (similar to а prize for overall contribution to music). In BG Radio’s “The Big Thousand” rank list, Doni retains first place, with forty-three of his songs being featured (as an author and performer). Doni’s website:
