What a thing, however, is live art? I have seen countless times “Carmen” with Marta Petkova, Nikola Hadjitanev as José and Emil Yordanov as Escamillo and in spite of that today’s spectacle was like a feast.
No video from whichever theatre you like in the world can replace your eyes to watch whatever you wish in a spectacle, and not what the operator and the continuity editor have decided to show you. And to see by yourself that the whole company is in such a good condition.
As for “Boléro”, my first impression was for an odd spectacle – very sexual, and in the same time with no touching. It represents (if it is at all appropriate the spectacle to be described), ten couples – the boys with black trousers and black shirts, and the girls with short black dresses and free hairs, which are being constantly regrouped, forming circumferences, squares, diagonals. The bolero is known with the constant crescendo and the dance gets more and more ardent and tense, it frankly creates the feeling of a sexual act, which is being accomplished in the moment on the stage, although the figures are quite abstract and in no case they remind of something sensual.
It’s very pity that I don’t see it in the programme for March, because this is an entirely ensemble ballet and it should be rehearsed many times to settle down. And it is also very convenient for stitching to anything, because it is not more than 20. Thanks God that Fredy Franzutti was not tempted to “enrich” the spectacle with some kind of multimedia or more impressive lighting. In practice, everything is black and white with lighting, which to some extent follows the figures, which are formed on the stage. So it is better, it looks like a beautiful graphic miniature.
So that I don’t know this season how many times we shall discover it once again, but I agree every time things to be so festive.
