See the singers who will debut at the Sofia Opera from October to December

By the end of this year, six intriguing and undoubtedly talented opera singers will debut at the Sofia Opera, the theater’s press center informed.

Alexandrina Mihaylova will portray Michaela in the opera “Carmen” on the 13th of October.

The singer debuted in 2021 at the Sofia Opera and Ballet as Liu in “Turandot” by Puccini. She was also applauded as Musetta in “La bohème. In 2022, she debuted at La Scala in Milan in the main role in the opera “The Little Prince” by Pierangelo Valtinoni. This year, she again won a scholarship granting her personal lectures from Raina Kabaivanska. “You can always learn more from a teacher like Maestra Kabaivanska. Even if I work ten, even twenty years with her, it would still not be enough”, the singer said.

On the 13th of October, Alexandrina Stoyanova – Andreeva will play the role of Mercédès in “Carmen”.

She became a Sofia Opera lead singer in November 2018 and has won awards from international contests while touring world-famous theaters. The viewers remember her debut as Cinderella in Rossini’s opera of the same name. Now, Alexandrina has a series of major opera roles under her belt such as Malcolm (“Lady of the Lake”), Flosshilde, Grimgerde, Valtraute (“Der Ring des Nibelungs”), Mary (“The Flying Dutchman”), Eboli (“Don Carlos”) etc.

“For my upcoming debut, I was given an interesting, different, intriguing and provoking role: that of Mercédès. She is Roma, loves freedom, has a complex character and many interests. He is quite different from me but the good thing about our profession is we get to live other lives: those of the characters we portray”, Alexandrina noted.

Maria Pavlova will take on the role of Clorinda in the opera “Cinderella” on the 16th of October.

Maria is called “The gift of Veliko Tarnovo” because she is born in this old capital of Bulgaria. The Sofia Opera audience remembers her participation in many children’s operas. Maria claims she always aims to perfect her performances as a singer. For her age, she has remarkable experience. She is grateful to Maestro Plamen Kartaloff and his team who wholeheartedly accepted and guided her. The audience is eager to see and hear Maria Pavlova on the 16th of October when she will perform as Clorinda in the opera “Cinderella” by Rossini.

Gergana Rusekova will take on the mantle of Ortrud in the Opera “Lohengrin” on the 20th of October.

Again in “Lohengrin”, on the 20th of October, Daniel Ostretsov will perform as Lohengrin.

Daniel has a rich repertoire of roles: Count Almaviva („The Barber of Seville“ by Rossini), Rodrigo (“Lady of the Lake” by Rossini), Don Ottavio (“Don Giovanni” by Mozart), Don Basilio and Don Curzio (“The Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart), Alfred (“Traviata” by Verdi) and many others. He has performed numerous times in Italy, Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark and the USA. He has reaped big success in Plamen Kartaloff’s Wagner productions as Loge in “Das Rheingold” and as the Helmsman in “The Flying Dutchman”. In an interview, Daniel Ostretsov noted that the topic of his upcoming performances at the Sofia Opera is a constant part of his everyday routine.

We will see Mila Mihova in the role of Violeta Valery in “Traviata” on the 8th and 10th of December.

Mihova learned to sing from her mother: the opera singer Darina Takova, and from Lucrecia Mesa. She has won a scholarship from the “Raina Kabaivanska” foundation at the New Bulgarian University as well as a scholarship from the “Boris Hristov” foundation’ she studied at the Opera studio in the “Santa Cecilia” National music academy in Rome where she specialized under the tutorship of Renata Scotto.
