OBITUARY NOTICE! STOIL GEORGIEV PASSED AWAY

(17.08.1946, Kyustendil – 08.03.2021, Sofia)

On 8 March passed away the soloists of many years of the Sofia Opera and Ballet – the bass-baritone Stoil Georgiev. The singer was appointed at the Opera still as a graduate of the State Academy of Music – Sofia. He graduated from the Vocal faculty with Ilia Yosifov.

He debuted on Sofa stage in the role of Don Giovanni from Mozart’s opera of the same name. Then followed a series of bass-baritone and bass parts like Mephistopheles from “Faust” by Gounod, Scarpia from “Tosca”, Escamillo from “Carmen”, Bartolo and Don Basilio from “Il barbiere di Siviglia”, Bartolo from “Le nozze di Figaro”, Mustafa from “L’italiana in Algeri” and others.

He had a rich repertoire of Russian classic operas – Count Tomsky from “The Queen of Spades”, Prince Galitsky from “Prince Igor”, Varlaam from “Boris Godunov”, Ruslan from “Ruslan and Lyudmila”. She performed the roles of Zachary the Painter from Marin Goleminov’s opera of the same name and the Bey from “Lud Gidiya” by Parashkev Hadjiev. He had guest-performances in the cast of the Sofia Opera and independently in different countries of Europe, Asia, South America.
