For the first year the ballet of the Sofia Opera will take part in the celebration of the World Ballet Day on October 29, 2020. The initiative started in 2014, presenting the best ballet troupes from around the world and enabling spectators from all over the world to be part of live rehearsals, interviews with artists and everything interesting behind the scenes. This year the focus will be on how the COVID-19 pandemic affects the art of ballet, how the various troupes are gradually returning to the normal rhythm of rehearsals and public performances.
The edition will be broadcast throughout the day, with a specially prepared programme for all participants. The event is hosted by the Australian Ballet of Melbourne, the Ballet of the Bolshoi Theatre and the Ballet of the Royal Opera in London.
Last year's World Ballet Day was one of the most successful events of the year, reaching 315 million social media users worldwide.
This year the Sofia Opera will broadcast its participation live on the theatre's official Facebook page and YouTube channel, starting at 16:00 Bulgarian time (Eastern European Time, UTC/GMT +2:00 hours). The host company of the region, with which the Sofia Opera and Ballet is associated, is the Royal Opera House London.
The achievements of the Sofia Opera and Ballet have long been noticed by the world audience and the specialized press. Our goal is to move forward successfully, despite the challenges of the times. The Sofia Opera and Ballet needs the personal support of its audience.
