Dear friends,
The Sofia Opera and Ballet invites you to our new art space “Club Opera” on the 1st of February, 11am. There will be a presentation of opera diva Raina Kabaivanska’s book on her personal path as an artist: “Vestalka na operata” written by the opera singer Angel Antonov.
“My book’s aim is to tell of the Bulgarian prima’s contribution to opera beyond all the superlatives and empty talk: to tell the story of how she became an influential figure in the world of opera. Nowadays, there are many opera stars out there but not all of them will make history. Kabaivanska however, is here to stay and there are completely objective reasons for this”, Angel Antonov shares.
He studied the singer’s life and her biography as an artist. He also studied and presented her different ventures in separate chapters: where and who she’s sung with, what have critics written about her and her own thoughts and emotions. He has compiled a complete list of her roles, even of those she has only performed once. He has also described her discography in detail: both official and pirated editions, audio and video; all these files have preserved the stage presence of a singer whose art still thrills not only her fans who keep these memories of having seen her on stage but also absolute beginner singers who find the answers to many of their questions in these recordings.
The Sofia Opera doyen, base Dimitar Stanchev and journalist Dimitar Sotirov will take part in a conversation with the book’s author and will share their memories of their meetings with Raina Kabaivanska.
You will be able to purchase the book at a preferential price.
Our guests’ stories will be enriched by videos of Raina Kabaivanska’s performances.
The entire last year was dedicated to the great singer’s 90th anniversary. After her traditional masterclass and her closing Gala concert at the beginning of the new season, exactly on the 15th of December: Kabaivanska’s birthday, the Sofia Opera dedicated the premiere performance of “Adriana Lecouvreur” by Francesco Cilea to her. On the 17th of January, again in a performance of “Adriana Lecouvreur”, world-famous students of hers took part in the opera.
We expect you on Saturday, the 1st of February, 11am, for a thrilling matinee!
The “Club Opera” entrance can be found on “G.S. Rakovski” street.
Yours, the Sofia Opera
