The Sofia Opera is set to present R.Strauss’ “Elektra” for the very first time in the company’s history.
The opera will be directed by Plamen Kartaloff and represents an extremely complex creative task facing the troupe for Bulgaria. For the new production, only Bulgarian singers will perform including Lilia Kehayova and Diana Guglina as Elektra, Gergana Rusekova, Mariana Zvetkova, and Yordanka Milkova in the role of Klytaemnestra, Daniel Ostretsov, and Emil Pavlov as Aegisth, Veselin Mihailov, and Atanas Mladenov as Orest.
Bearing in mind that the premiere of “Elektra” comes as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage around the globe, the Sofia Opera will follow health regulations for the safety of its audience. The occasion also comes as the historic theater celebrates its 130th anniversary; it recently showcased The Ring Cycle and “Tristan Und Isolde.”
Performances are set to open on Nov. 26, 2020.
