A Portuguese artist to star in “La Bayadere” at the Sofia Opera and Ballet

The Portuguese ballet dance Guilherme Gameiro Alves will guest star in the role of Solor in “La Bayadere”. The performance will take place on the 14th of February and on the 15th of February Tsetso Ivanov will perform the role, the Sofia Opera and Ballet shared.

Guilherme Gameiro Alves graduated at the Lisbon conservatory in 2007 with a scholarship by the “Calouste Gulbenkian” foundation; he studied for two years at the Dance academy in Zurich under the tutelage of Oliver Matz. In 2009, he joined the Finnish national ballet where performed as De Grijo in “Manon Lescaut” by Kennett McMillan, as Beno in “Swan Lake” by Kennett Grieve, as Gurn in “La Sylphide” by August Bournonville, in ballets by Cranko, Foresight and Naharin. In 2011, he joined the Croatia national theater as a lead dancer and in 2017 he was promoted to premiere lead dancer. He has performed in Russia, Japan, Italy, Bosna, Servia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Portugal and the Dominican Republic. He also took part in Vladimir Malahov’s gala concert in Ukraine. He received a gold medal in the veteran category of the international ballet contest “Tanzolymp” in Berlin. He won the “Oscar Harmos” award for artistic accomplishments at the Croatian national theater in Zagreb.

Tragedy and lyricism, a desire for happiness, love and freedom intertwine in this famous piece where the story unfolds in ancient India. The story depicts the passionate and all-consuming love of Nikia, the bayadere, towards the brave warrior Solor. Loyalty, betrayal, honesty and treachery form the basis of this expressive ballet performance which has reigned throughout time as the apotheosis of passionate love”, the Sofia Opera and Ballet shared.

Starring in “La Bayadere” as Nikia: Marta Petkova/Katerina Petrova; Boryana Petrova debuts as Gamzati; Simeon Atanasov as the Golden god Takafumi Tamagava; Rumen Bonev as Raja; Matthew Whittle as the Great Brahmin; Nikola Arnaudov/Samuel Pereira as the Fakir; Teodor Vodenicharov as the Chief warrior; Marina Marinova as the maid; Ana Gicheva-NUTI/Polina Tsolova as the water carrier; Kristina Chochanova, Francesco Congiusti, Vincenco Karuna, Anastasia Popova, Tomas Ferreira and Georgi Banchev as Indian dancers.
