He is author of the English-language lyrics of the musical LES MISÉRABLES, which is being performed with great success at the Sofia Opera and Ballet.

16 years Herbert Kretzmer was theatre critic at the London DAILY EXPRESS, where he covered about 300 premieres. He is author of a series of song lyrics, among which songs for Charles Aznavour, for Sophia Loren and Peter Sellers, a lot of which were at the top of prestigious charts.

He is co-author with Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus from ABBA of the musical KRISTINA, the premiere of which was at Carnegie Hall, New York, and of the musical MARGUERITE, written together with the authors of LES MISÉRABLES Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg.

In 2011, Herbert Kretzmer was awarded by the English Queen Elisabeth II the Order of the British Empire.
