“Musician of the Year 2024” is the category in which Gabriela Georgieva and Boris Spasov will compete in together with thirteen other renowned creators.

Radio channel “Horizont”’s show “Allegro vivace” conducted a national poll among BNR’s listeners for their choice for the Bulgarian “Musician of the Year” in classic 1991 genres. The awards aim to praise the most important achievements in Bulgarian music of the past year.

Gabriela Georgieva performed exceptionally in three different roles in 2024. In February, she took on the role of Medea in the opera of the same name by Luigi Cherubini; in June, she triumphed in her first ever Wagner role: Ortrud in “Lohengrin” and in the end of November, she also portrayed Adriana Lecouvreur in the opera by Francesco Cilea.

Boris Spasov has been conducting at the Sofia Opera for over forty years now. There are both opera and ballet titles in his huge repertoire as well as symphonic music. In the end of December, Boris Spasov conducted seven performance of the ballet “The Nutcracker” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, in the span of four days. In the beginning of 2025, his seventieth anniversary was noted with a performance of “Giselle” by Adolf Adam starring the world-famous ballet stars Maria Kochetkova and Michal Krčmář.
