The Sofia Opera Ballet troupe won the yearly “Impulse” troupe of the year award. Among the nominees were the ATOM theater dance troupe as well as Dance company “Dune”. The Sofia Opera Ballet stood out with impressive accomplishments during the last few seasons among which were the premieres of “Ana Karenina” and “The Great Gatsby”.
Katerina Petrova, Sofia Opera prima ballerina won the women’s “Classic dance performer” award; she was nominated together with Marta Petkova, Sofia Opera prima ballerina and artistic head of the Sofia Opera Ballet, and Aneliya Dimitrova, prima ballerina at the National Opera in Stara Zagora.
Tsetso Ivanov, prima ballet dancer at the Sofia Opera, won the men’s “Classic dance performer” award. He was competing for the first place with Emil Yordanov, also a prima ballet dancer at the Sofia and Varna Opera and Dian Raichev from the National Plovdiv Opera.
Trifon Mitev – prima ballet dancer and long-standing tutor of the Sofia Opera Ballet, was awarded a special prize for his great artistic accomplishments.
The award ceremony was held last night at the “Ivan Vasov” National theater, for a forth consecutive year: awards were given for accomplishments in both classic and contemporary dancing in Bulgaria.

You can see the Sofia Opera Ballet in “Romeo and Juliet” by Sergei Prokofiev, the Sofia Opera’s latest upcoming premiere, on the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th of November. The performance is directed by choreographer Kaloyan Boyadzhieva, ballet master of the Norwegian national ballet and bearer of many prestigious international awards.
