On the 20th of October, Daniel Ostretsov will debut as Lohengrin on the Sofia Opera and Ballet stage in Richard Wagner’s opera of the same name. Plamen Kartaloff is the production’s director’ it premiered on the 13th of June this year. This is Daniel’s third Wagner role in his repertoire after having portrayed Loge in “Das Rheingold” and the Helmsman in “The Flying Dutchman”: all three performances are directed by Plamen Kartaloff. Daniel was vocally confident while portraying this new character and had a wonderful presence on stage. He sang together with Tsvetana Bandalovska (Elsa), Gergana Rusekova who debuted as Ortrud, Ventseslav Atanasov (Friedrich von Telramund), Bjartni Thor Christinson (King Heinrich der Vogler) and Atanas Mladenov as the king’s messenger. The performance was conducted by Evan-Alexis Christ.
Daniel Ostretsov is one of the first participants in Plamen Kartaloff’s productions of Wagner’s works commemorating the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth. Daniel took on the role of Loge for the first time during the premiere of “Das Rheingold” in 2010. Then, “L’ opera” magazine wrote:
“Daniel Ostretsov’s portrayal of Loge was great news to us: he is so exquisite and lyrical, young and handsome”.
In 2023, after having performed as Loge again in the new production of “Der Ring des Nibelungen”, he was once more highly praised for his interpretation of the character.
“Daniel Ostretsov brought to life an intriguing and sarcastic Loge with his stable tenor. His performance stood out with Daniel’s dynamic presence on stage and the playful and ironic nuance to it which appropriately expressed the ambivalence of Loge’s character” (“Der neue Merker”)
Daniel’s other performances at the Sofia Opera stage are just as successful: Alfred (“Traviata”), Egist (“Elektra), Pinkerton (“Madama Butterfly”) and Jason (“Medea”).
On the 4th of December, the Sofia Opera will close the opera and ballet festival in Stara Zagora with a performance of the opera “Das Rheingold”, with Daniel Ostretsov portraying Loge again.
