Lohengrin and Elsa come to life in the Sofia Opera’s new production

There must always be passion, Daniel Ostretsov and Tsvetana Bandalovska believe

The romantic opera “Lohengrin” will attract the attention of music lovers next week at the Sofia Opera. On the 20th and 26th of October, the two performances of the opera will be conducted by Evan-Alexis Christ. Ninety years after its first premiere in 1934, “Lohengrin” enjoys a new gorgeous vision in Plamen Kartaloff’s new production.

“The excitement is great because the role of Lohengrin is a very serious one and not every tenor can handle it. You’ve got to have the experience. There are many love-filled lyrical moments but also a lot of dramatic ones. As a tenor, you have to be very flexible. I’m thrilled about my debut”, Daniel Ostretsov who will portray Lohengrin said in the studio of the “Bulgaria in the morning” show.

Plamen Kartaloff’s production is connected with another of Wagner’s operas: “Parsifal”, and brings us to the spiritual world of the Holy Grail where Lohengrin is a knight. Him and Elsa are spiritually connected protagonists.

“There must always be passion. It electrifies both the stage and the audience. I don’t view stage fright as a negative thing: it’s not caused by anxiety but by excitement. Every role requires concentration, especially those in Wagner’s works. The artists who take them on need to achieve a special level of concentration in order to reflect the score through their own prism”, Tsvetana Bandalovska who will take on the role of Elsa commented for Bulgaria ON AIR.

According to Bandalovska, “Lohengrin” reveals the importance of faith and our ability to listen to our inner voice.
