After the opening on 29.08 of the Portal of the Two Worlds Festival at the Tsari Mali Grad Fortress with the magnificent opera “Yana’s Nine Brothers” by Lyubomir Pipkov, stage director Plamen Kartaloff, conductor Zhorzh Dimitrov, tonight upcoming is the opera “Carmen” by Georges Bizet. The production is absolutely different and innovative. With it Plamen Kartaloff escapes from the clichés of the traditional productions of the opera after Prosper Mérimée’s short novel of the same name. The stage director offers an independent conceptual look in a style of modern times and the traditions of the ancient Greek Noh theatre. “Carmen” is a tragedy of the personality, this is why in the spectacle she is down-to-the-ground person, restricted by Fate. Love and freedom for her are more important than life. After Plamen Kartaloff’s words, Carmen is a reflection of a tragic guilt, close to the destiny of a female character from the classic masterpieces of the ancient Greek tragedy. This reported from the press centre of the Sofia Opera and Ballet.
In the role of Carmen, the present at the spectacle will see the mezzo-soprano Violeta Radomirska, a graduate from the Academy of Music in Sofia. She studied singing with Alexandrina Miltcheva. Since 1999, she has been living and working in Zurich.
In “Carmen” on 30 August will take part also: Tsv. Bandalovska, V. Mihaylov, D. Damyanov, I. Iliev, Kr. Dinev, Sv. Rangelov, At. Mladenov, D. Vassileva, Tsv. Kotseva.
