Jorge de Leon will debut on the opera stage in Bulgaria as Prince Kalaf in the opera “Turandot” by Puccini together with Anna Pirozzi as Turandot and Rosa Feola as Liu, the slave.
World-famous conductor Daniel Oren will conduct Plamen Kartaloff’s production which has been leaving audiences in awe for over thirty years now.
Jorge de Leon often visits the biggest opera theaters in the world; he gratefully mentioned the name of the great director Giancarlo del Monaco: his mentor, teacher and advisor. Together, the two of them rehearse a series of roles which Jorge continues to perform all over the world, to this day. Jorge is born in Tenerife, the Canary Islands. He studies opera singing and music at his hometown. He debuts in Spain but his career really took off after winning the José Carreras prize at the international festival “Julián Gayarre“, in 2004. He works with Daniel Oren and Zubin Meta, he sings at La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden in London as well as in theaters in Berlin, Barcelona and Vienna. This summer, Jorge de Leon performed at a series of “Madama Butterfly” showings at the Shanghai Opera. After visiting the Sofia Opera, he has upcoming performances in “Turandot”, “Aida”, “Otello” and “Carmen” in Sevilla, Malaga, Oviedo and Rome. In 2023, the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts awarded Jorge de Leon the “Best male opera singer” prize.
