On the second day of yet another premiere at the Sofia Opera and Ballet: that of “The Green Bird”, the author of the music and lyrics: Dobrin Vekilov – Doni, enjoys a warm welcome by both the audience and opera director Plamen Kartaloff. “Yesterday, acad. Kartaloff announced the performance will officially become a part of the Sofia Opera repertoire and will be performed on a regular basis.”
The basis for the piece is the play by Carlo Gozzi of the same name. Even though Doni didn’t choose to work on it but was invited by director Dimitar Sharkov, the famous pop singer and theatrical composer noted he feels blessed and has watched both the rehearsals and the premiere of “The Green Bird” through the eyes of a child.
He has respected the art of opera for years as well as the performances at the Sofia Opera; in April, he handed in his prepared work on “The Green Bird” and once he entered the opera building and went on the stage, he felt unexpectedly excited, Doni admitted for BNR Radio Sofia.
“I had no expectations, I had hope and faith. We made quick progress together with the team and built warm relationships. I did everything I wanted and no one intervened with my work. I’m quite surprised by the artists’ wonderful acting skills. I’m also glad the audience appreciated my music and lyrics. I feel uncomfortable repeating acad. Kartaloff’s words following the premiere. I saw in him a very brave man who is no slave to stigmas towards creators in different genres”, Doni added.
