On 8 May “My Father the Painter” for the first time on stage
Four premieres prepares the Sofia Opera till the end of the season in the three arts of art – opera, ballet and musical. The premiere season starts in the beginning of May with the staging of the Bulgarian film-musical “My Father the Painter”. The staging is by Acad. Plamen Kartaloff with Kalin Vrachanski in the lead role of the teacher Andreev. Special participation has Slavcho Peev, who is first performer of the role of the Rich Man from the film of the same name by the stage director Stefan Dimitrov. The premiere is on 8 May. There will be spectacles also on 9 May at 11 h and 19 h and on 10 May at 19 h. The music of “My Father the Painter” is by Petar Stupel and Konstantin Dragnev, and the scenario is by Vasil Tsonev.
The other important event is the ballet “Tango”. The new ballet premiere of the Sofia Opera is dated for 26 March and 3 April. It is dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla. In the tense by passion atmosphere, we shall see the aces of Bulgarian ballet Marta Petkova and Nikola Hadjitanev in a different special line. The soloists and the corps de ballet will transfer the passion of Argentinian tango on the stage in the spectacle by the choreographer Svetlin Ivelinov.
The concert performance of “Macbeth” by Giuseppe Verdi on 30 May and 2 June is dedicated to the 80th Anniversary of Ghena Dimitrova. In the lead roles are the stars Kiril Manolov and Alexandrina Pendatchanska, and conductor is Oliver von Dohnányi.
Pope John Paul II is among the first people, who heard the opera “Saints Cyril and Methodius” in a concert performance by the Baltic Opera in Gdansk in 1986. The opus by the Bulgarian composer Zhivka Klinkova has never been staged. It is expected to be announced the dates of the world premiere of “Saints Cyril and Methodius”. It will be performed on 24 May.
