For the 100th Anniversary of the great bass at the National School for Ancient Languages and Cultures “Konstantin Cyril Philosoph” have sounded fragments from “Aida” by Verdi
Sofia Opera and Ballet has set the beginning of the celebrations of the 100th Anniversary of the world-known bass Boris Christoff with a concert at the Classic’s School after music by Giuseppe Verdi. The Director of our first opera theatre Mr. Plamen Kartaloff expressed his gratitude to the audience of students and professors for their interest in the great Italian composer and in the famous Bulgarian singer. “I am very happy that here I could see some faces from the Opera, who are regularly present at our spectacles. I am glad that you are so numerous at the presentation of our project “Aida”. The Director of the National School for Ancient Languages and Cultures “Konstantin Cyril Philosoph“ Mariela Papazova thanked to the organizers of the concert in the just renovated gymnasium of the lyceum.
Arias, duets and tercets of Aida, Radamès and Amneris from one of the most popular moments from the opera “Aida” were performed by the soloists of Sofia Opera and Ballet – the soprano Gabriela Georgieva, the tenor Kostadin Andreev and the mezzo-soprano Gergana Rusekova. The conductor Velizar Genchev, who was accompanying the performances on the piano, gave short explanations of the concept and appearance of Verdi’s illustrious work and presented in an interesting way the opera’s content with the help of the musical illustrations. The students and professors from the National School for Ancient Languages and Cultures sent off with long applauses the concert of the artists of Sofia Opera and Ballet, second concert since the beginning of the school year and expressed their desire to be present at the spectacle of “Aida” on 8 February at 11.00 h, in which except Gabriela Georgieva and Gergana Rusekova we will have as guest-performer our famous tenor Kamen Chanev as Radamès, as well as the soloists Angel Hristov, Vladimir Petrov, Hrisimir Damyanov, Silvana Pravcheva. Conductor will be Velizar Genchev. The spectacle will be offered with special discount for pupils, students and pensioners.
