“LA DAME AUX CAMÉLIAS”, the story of one love, born from the passionate affection of Dumas fils to the courtesan Marie Duplessis, turned into real scandal for the society of that time.
Dumas fils’ dissolute character inspired Maestro Giuseppe Verdi, who for unusually short time moulded the shape of the first lyrical and psychological opera in the genre, real as in life.
“La Traviata or the Fallen Woman” suffered a fiasco at its premiere in Venice, but like Dumas fils predicted, it would survive his “La Dame aux Camélias”.
Verdi asked himself the question: Whose is the guilt for the failure – of the singers or his own.
And he decided: “…time will say its word”.
Time has decided – eternal life for “La traviata”, which became favourite of audience and artists.
Maestro Verdi’s immortal work will open the curtain of the Sofia Opera on 12 and 13 December 2018 for the mystery of love with the suggestion of Plamen Kartaloff’s production from 1996. The guest-artists Diana Tugui and Maria Mudryak in the role of Violetta Valéy, Ilya Selivanov and Milen Bozhkov in the role of Alfredo Germont will light the fire of love in this moving drama.
