With a grandiose gala concert finished the XVII International Master Class of Raina Kabaivanska. The good news is that this year the Big Prize was awarded to the Bulgarian soprano Aleksandrina Mihaylova – only 19-year old, who succeeded to stand out with her vocal abilities and artistic talent among the 65 candidates, who appeared at the audition for the master class. Yet last year she received a scholarship for education and now we saw that this was not by chance. In the closing evening the spectators heard her brilliant performance of Margherita‘s aria from the opera “Mefistofele” and applauded a long time the triumph and the encouraging words of Raina Kabaivanska herself: “I am happy that my students responded to me exactly with what I wanted from them! I would like to thank the team of the New Bulgarian University. They believed in me and we created my school for talents. I am thankful to the America for Bulgaria Foundation, the Sofia Municipality and the Fantastico supermarkets for the support!”
Among the other prize winners, who received scholarships for education at the Academies of Music “Vecchi Tonelli” in Modena and “Chigiana” in Siena, are Strahinja Đokić (Serbia), Marily Santoro (Italy), Yonghyun Ryu (Korea), Maritina Tampakopoulos (Greece). All of the awarded students, as well as some of the participants in the master class will sing in the new production “Norma” (13, 14 and 15 October at the Sofia Opera).
“If Love had its own city in the world, this evening it would be Sofia, because Raina Kabaivanska grants love. She herself said that she was choosing her students according to their talent and kindness. We thank them endlessly!” – said. Prof. Plamen Bochkov, Chancellor of the New Bulgarian University.
Acad. Kartaloff presented a huge bouquet to our opera prima and expressed successfully his admiration with the words: “In front of the altar of our opera temple this evening really poured a horn of plenty of talents. Raina is one of the greatest successors of the art of belcanto. A quarter of a century ago, she wanted to say goodbye to the operatic art. It is good that she didn’t do it, we won’t allow her to do it in the next quarter of a century. We are awaiting her students in the opera “Norma”!
