Dear friends,
In the 2014-15 season the Sofia Opera and Ballet offers its loyal audience a rich and varied programme: new premieres, visiting international artists, debuts of young Bulgarian opera and ballet talents, special initiatives and innovative programmes to attract new and create youngest audiences.
Our performances and concerts take place on five stages – the principal, in our main hall, a small stage for performances for an audience of 3 to 14 years, in the special hall for performances for babies – our newest audience from 0 to 3 years. The summer season of the Sofia Opera has two other stages – in the Military Academy Park and the Palace of the Bulgarian kings on the historic Tsarevets Hill in Veliko Tarnovo.
Our new season is inspired as a continuation of the previous ones, by the success achieved by our artists, orchestra, ballet, chorus, as well as our technical units, artistic production studios and administration. In 2014 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Boris Christoff with a number of events, including a jubilee gala concert, “Boris Godunov” in the open in front of the “St. Alexander Nevsky” Memorial Temple and “Don Carlo”, which opens the season.
The greatest recognition of the Sofia Opera comes not only from the assessment of national and international criticism, but from our most important partner – our audience. The audience of the Sofia Opera is becoming more international. Like a magnet, the Bulgarian “Ring of the Nibelung” attracted fans of the work of Richard Wagner worldwide. To see and hear it in Bulgaria and with only Bulgarian singers, many guests came from Australia, USA , Colombia, South Africa, Germany, UK, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Austria, and Russia among others.
With its repertoire policy the Sofia Opera is a national Theatre of international importance. I stress – Theatre! Not only for our great wealth and mine of gorgeous Bulgarian voices. Artists are the most important in the Opera House, and they have the power and significance for the importance and the building of the tradition of the temple of opera which attracts and to which are flocking its worshippers.
Good luck to the 2014-15 Season!
