Newspaper “Zhivotat dnes” – The world is celebrating the legendary Diaghilev. In his honour, the Sofia Opera performs the ballets “Petrushka” and “The Firebird” on 7 and 8 April
Today the world is celebrating the 145th Anniversary of the legendary Sergei Diaghilev – a Russian theatre and ballet impresario. He was the founder (1911) of one of the most famous ballet companies of all time – “Diaghilev’s Russian ballet”, which triumphed 20 seasons on the most important stages of the world.
In it took part Vaslav Nijinsky, Michael Fokine and a series of other eminent choreographers and dancers. Diaghilev’s striving is to show the beauty of classical dance, but also to go beyond the known limits.
On 7 and 8 April at 19:00 h at the Sofia Opera you will have the chance to see again the brilliant production of of Andris Liepa “Petrushka”/ “The Firebird”. It gathered at the premiere spectacles the ovations of the audience.
“Petrushka” and “The Firebird” are unique spectacles, created more than 100 years ago. The amazing is that even to this day they continue to be actual.

With the same costumes, sets and choreography, created for their original premieres in Paris in 1910-1911. A long time they were not shown in Russia, because Fokine and Dhyagilev and all the participants in the Russian seasons stayed to live abroad. For this reason they were not included in the repertoire of the Mariinsky Theatre until 1993.
