“Town Musicians of Bremen”, musical for little and big children by Alexander Vladigerov
“Once upon a time, there was…” – this is how many fairy-tales begin. The musical “Town Musicians of Bremen” was created after the fairy-tale of Brothers Grimm “Town Musicians of Bremen”. The story is about a donkey, a dog, a cat and a cock, who have grown old and become useless for their owners, who are trying to get rid of them by the worst way. One by one, the animals run away. They gather by chance and decide to go in the town, where they will become musicians and will live freely. On their way, however, they come across one house, in which live robbers. Thanks to a clever plan, the animals frighten them and chase them away from their house. The characters start living merrily and happily in their new home.
Even to this day, one of the sights of the town of Bremen (Germany) is the bronze statue, created by the sculptor Gerhard Marx in 1951, depicting the characters from the fairy-tale of Brothers Grimm “Town Musicians of Bremen”.
The composer of the musical “Town Musicians of Bremen” is Alexander Vladigerov. It is known that he was addicted to the jazz, the same way as his father Pancho Vladigerov. By adding also his finely developed sense of humour, which he weaves into his music works – the result is a very merry and amusing already music fairy-tale. The musical “Town Musicians of Bremen” with initial title “The Merry Town Musicians” was created in 1971 for smaller, as well as for bigger children.
The musical is popular not only in our country – only in Japan it was seen by half a million of children.
