The exhibition will remain in the small garden in front of “Kristal”till 22 April
In the small garden “Kristal”, on specially prepared stands, are arranged moments of the life and work of one of the greatest basses – Boris Christoff. The exhibition is dedicated to his 100th Anniversary and it is part of the official celebrations organized in his honour.
The Director of Sofia Opera and Ballet Plamen Kartaloff, who had worked with Boris Christoff during the last years of his life, officially opened the exhibition. Specially for this event came students from class 11 from the Classic High School in Sofia, where from, on 23 January, started the celebrations of the jubilee. Many passengers stopped to see it.
The stands show moments of the performer’s childhood, young and mature age. In the exhibition are included photos not shown until now, which are part of the personal archive of Vanya Pravchanska-Ivanova – a friend of Boris Christoff. They are placed at disposal by her son – prof. Zahari Ivanov.
Momchil Georgiev, advisor of the Minister of culture, expressed his satisfaction in the exhibition which was realized with the special support of the Ministry.
To Boris Christoff are dedicated several forthcoming events at Sofia Opera and Ballet – the spectacles “Aida” by Giuseppe Verdi on 9 and 10 May, the spectacle “Don Carlo” by Giuseppe Verdi on 31 May and 20 September, the opera “Fidelio” by Ludwig van Beethoven on 8 June.
On 18 May at Sofia Opera and Ballet will take place a gala concert, dedicated to Boris Christoff, and on 19 May will take place a Jubilee conference about him at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
The culmination moment in the celebration of the singer will be the spectacles of the opera “Boris Godunov” by Modest Mussorgsky on 27, 28 and 29 June in the open air in front of the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
The second performance of “Der Ring des Nibelungen” in the period 23 – 29 July 2014 is also dedicated to Boris Christoff, whose career began with a concert performance of one of the key roles in the tetralogy.
The citizens and guests of Sofia have the chance to see the unique exhibition till 22 April.
