During an official ceremony at the Chamber hall in the Concert complex “Bulgaria”, the Ministry of transport and information released a special edition called “100 years since composer Konstantin Iliev’s birth” consisting of a special stamp and postal seal, with a stamp print run of six thousand copies.
Throughout the entire year, in Sofia and in other cities, a series of events marked the anniversary of the great Bulgarian conductor, composer, pedagogue and musicologist’s birth.
In the spirit of honor and respect, on the 9th of October the Sofia Opera solemnly marked the anniversary with a concert under the conductorship of Zhorzh Dimitrov where the first scene from the opera “The Boyana Master” and String Quartet №1 were performed.
“All we leave behind are the paths we’ve crossed throughout our lives. Some will be erased by the passage of time but others will continue to shine and guide the new generations.
Do any of us know what we will leave behind?”, Konstantin Iliev wrote on the 24th of October, 1986.
Let’s preserve Konstantin Iliev’s legacy: a composer who has created music in almost all genres; a conductor with an impressive repertoire, founder and head of the most prestigious Bulgarian ensembles, a passionate defender and interpretator of contemporary Bulgarian composers’ works; a pedagogue who has taught a great many wonderful conductors and an explorer who has left bright evidence and images of the time he’s lived in.
