Biography

Soprano Mila Mihova is born in Sofia. She graduated from the “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National music academy, with Darina Takova as her singing tutor. She won the “Raina Kabaivanska” fund (and New Bulgarian University) scholarship, as well as one from the “Boris Hristov” foundation for the Opera studio at the “Santa Cecilia” in Rom where she studied under Renata Scotto.

In August 2015, she debuted as Fiordilligi in “Così fan tutte” by Mozart at the “Operosa” opera festival. That same year she performed as a lead singer in Bethoven’s Ninth symphony with “Orchestra Camasa de Cascais” in Portugal. More debuts followed: as Lucia in “Lucia di Lammermoor” by Donizetti; as Fortuna and Drusilla in “L'incoronazione di Poppea” by Monteverdi. In 2018, she performed a solo recital of opera and chamber arias by Rossini at “Bulgaria” hall and was invited to take part in Accademia Rossiniana „Alberto Zedda” at the Rossini opera festival in Pesaro, Italy. There, she participated in many master classes and concert and debuted as Madam Cortese in “Journey to Reims” by Rossini, at Teatro Rossini. Later in 2018, she performed a soprano solo in Bulgarian showings of “Stabat Mater” by Rossini and in a “Petite messe solennelle” performance in Paris, at Le Grand Amphitheatre de la Sorbonne (the concert was organized by ROF). In December that same year, she held a recital of chamber and opera belcanto arias as part of the New Year music festival at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, together with the famous pianist Richard Barker.

In 2019, she took part in the “Mozart holidays” festival in Pravets, with a recital of rarely performed opera and chamber arias under the accompaniment of Nikolay Stoikov. In 2021, together with pianist Vasilena Atanasova, she held recitals of “The Nightingale and the Rose” and “The Other Belcanto”. In 2023, she created the chamber concert „L’heure exquise“ and held a recital in June 2024 together with pianist Julio Dzappa, by invitation from the Italian cultural institute and the Sofia philharmonic.

Her recent notable opera performances include debuts in German: as Abigaile in “Nabucco” by Giuseppe Verdi at the Mainz Opera and as Madam Cortese in “Journey to Reims” by Rossini at the Augsburg Opera, in “Nabucco” at the Opera Open festival in Plovdiv and in the Varna National opera; she also held a number of recitals, both in Bulgaria and abroad. In January 2024, she performed together with Sir Brin Terfel, the world-famous bass-baritone and in July she performed a series of arias and duets by Puccini at a gala concert with the Sofia philharmonic.

Mila Mihova also recorded theater music. She performs in many concerts in Italy, Spain, Germany etc. During the new season, she has upcoming debuts in “Traviata”, “Falstaff”, “Pagliacci”, “Lombards” and other operas.
