Biography
Mexican American soprano, Leticia de Altamirano was recognized by CONACULTA (National Council for Culture and the Arts) as “Voice of the Mexican Bicentennial” in 2010. She is currently one of the most important opera singers in the country.
Leticia recently made an outstanding tour in France singing the main role in Ginastera´s opera Beatrix Cenci in Strasbourg and Mulhouse with the Opéra National du Rhin, conducted by Marko Letonjia. It was the premiere in France of this opera and it won “best lyrical performance” of the year. She was also widely lauded as Lucia in Donizetti’s thrilling Lucia di Lammermoor in Manaus, Brazil and very recently in Montevideo, Uruguay as Gilda in one of Verdi’s classic operas, Rigoletto.
She co-starred with acclaimed tenor Javier Camarena in Bellini’s I Puritani as Elvira, and later in the “Stars of the operatic sky” gala concert for the 60th edition of the Litomyšl Smetanova Festival in Czech Republic with the PKF – Prague Philharmonia conducted by Leoš Svárovský.
Leticia has sung on many occasions with the legendary tenor Jose Carreras and as part of his world tour “Jose Carreras: A life in music”. She has also appeared with renowned tenor Ramon Vargas, most recently in a gala for his 35th Anniversary celebration as a singer.
She made her debut in 2007 at the Bellas Artes Opera Palace in Mexico City as Soeur Constance in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmelites in a Teatro del Colon production. Later on, she made brilliant performances as Marie in Donizetti’s La Fille du Règiment, Violetta Valery in La Traviata, Micaela in Carmen, Musetta in La Boheme, Gilda in Rigoletto, and as Euridice, la Musica, la Speranza in L´Orfeo by Monteverdi/Maderna. In Mexico’s national premiere of Hector Berlioz’s Beatrice et Benedict, she sang the role of Héro with the Mineria Symphony Orchestra conducted by Carlos Miguel Prieto.
She has sung at important massive events such as the 2010 Bicentennial anniversary of Mexican Independence held at the Zocalo (Mexico´s main plaza) with over 80,000 people present and live streaming on national and international TV. In addition, she sang at the commemorating gala for the 100th Anniversary of the Mexican Army, with tenor Fernando de la Mora and the National Symphony Orchestra, and at the sold-out National Auditorium concert “Las Voces del Bicentenario le Cantan a México”.
This past summer she made a brilliant role debut as Konstanze in Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” conducted by Antoni Ros Marbà at the Teatro del Bicentenario.
She has participated in many international cultural festivals including the Cervantino Festival, Amazon Cultural Festival, Ars Mondo in France, Alfonso Ortiz Tirado Festival, Liber Festival, 5 de Mayo Cultural Festival, the Baroque International Music Festival, Mexico’s Festival del Centro Histórico, among many others.
Her recordings include the “Opera Prima” CD/DVD by Universal Music and Canal 22, and as soprano soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with tenor Fernando de la Mora and the Queretaro State Philharmonic Orchestra.
