Biography

JORGE DE LEON - Tenor

Born in Tenerife, he made his musical and singing studies at the Tenerife Conservatory with Isabel G. Soto. He also studied with Giuseppe Valdengo and since 2004 with Alfonso García Leoz.

Among others, he has received the IV Villa Abarán Competition First Prize, the Julián Gayarre First Prize and the Jaime Aragall Second Prize in 2004, beginning then a very important international career. Likewise, he has been awarded the Oscar de la Lírica for best tenor 2016; Taburiente Award 2022 and Talía Award 2023 from the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts for the Best Male Lyric Performer.

Regular guest of the most leading opera houses where he has performed Aida and Cavalleria rusticana at La Scala; Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Macbeth and Aida at the Wienner Staatsoper; Aida at the NY MET; Tosca, Aida, Manon Lescaut, Un Ballo in maschera and Forza del destino at the Deutsche Oper Berlin; Tosca at the Staatsoper in Munich; Carmen and Aida at the Verona Arena; Tosca at the New National Theater Tokyo; Tosca, Andrea Chenier, Manon Lescaut, Madama Butterfly, Turandot and Otello at the Liceo or Andrea Chenier, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Aida and Turandot at the Teatro Real, among many others.

As a sample of his career, we must mention some engagements of this last season as Tosca with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, under conduction of Zubin Mehta; Aida at the Teatro Real in Madrid; Aida at the Wienner Staatsoper; La Forza del Destino and Tosca at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Aida at the NY MET, Turandot at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Turandot at Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari or Pagliacci at the ROH Covent Garden.
