Gergana Rusekova

Biography

Gergana Rusekova was born in the picturesque Bulgarian town of Pazardzhik. She graduated in Opera singing at the Pancho Vladigerov State Academy of Music, Sofia.

Her vocal pedagogue is Assoc. Prof. Konstantsa Vachkova.

She improved her singing skills in the master classes of Jeffrey Gall, Valery Rifkin, Martina Arroyo, Luciana d’Intino, Stefka Evstatieva, Fiorenza Cossotto.

In 2006, Gergana Rusekova was a laureate of the Hristo Brambarov Competition and a post-graduate student at the Ducane University, Pittsburgh, USA.

In 2009, she won several awards at prestigious Bulgarian competitions and was awarded the Third Prize at the Ritorna Vincitor International Competition for Young Opera Singers – Ercolano, Italy.

In the 2011/12 season, she took part in the premiere productions of the Sofia Opera and Ballet – "Cavalleria Rusticana" as Santuzza and "Tosca" as Tosca; in 2012, she participated in the tour of the Sofia Opera in Japan with the production of "Cavalleria Rusticana" by Maskani, and in 2013 – in Hugo de Ana’s production of "Aida" as Amneris.

From 2015 to 2017, she was a member of the Stara Zagora State Opera, where she appeared in the main mezzo-soprano repertoire.

Since 2017, Gergana Rusekova has been a soloist at the Sofia National Opera and Ballet, where she complemented her repertoire with the roles of Kundry (Wagner's "Parsifal") and Giorgetta (Puccini's "Il Tabarro").

This season Gergana Rusekova performed with unprecedented success the title role of Carmen in the opera of the same name by Bizet.

Her repertoire includes: Santuzza – "Cavalleria Rusticana" (Mascagni), Dalila – "Samson et Dalila" from Saint-Saëns, Eboli – "Don Carlo", Amneris – "Aida", Azucena – "Il Trovatore", Ulrica – "Un Ballo in Maschera" and "Requiem" by Verdi, as well as in Mozart's "Requiem". And also Salud – "La Vida Breve" by De Falla, "Stabat Mater" by Pergolesi, "Little Solemn Mass" by Rossini and the Ninth Symphony by Beethoven.
