Ayyub Guliyev is winner of 2011 edition of the Arturo Toscanini International Competition of Conductors in Parma (Italy), Maestro Guliyev has been also awarded First prizes at the Witold Lutosławski Competition for Young Conductors in Bialystok, and the Mitropoulos International Conducting Competition in Athens among others.
Since 2011 Maestro Guliyev holds the position of the Artistic director and Principal conductor of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre and has been the Principal guest conductor of Kunming International Philharmonic in China since 2018. From 2013 to 2017 Ayyub Guliyev was a Principal Guest Conductor of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the North Caucasus State Safonov Philharmonic.
This season sees Mr. Guliyev performing One Thousand and One Nights at the Mariinsky Theatre and at the Sofia Opera and ballet Theatre, Sleeping beauty at Mariinsky’s Primorsky stage, La boheme, Tosca, Il Trovatore, Aida, Rigoletto, La traviata, L'elisir d'amore, Cavalleria Rusticana, Carmen, Aleko, Swan Lake, Nutcracker at Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, Opera Gala with Ekaterina Semenchuk at Bolshoi Teater Minsk and Aida at Tatar State Opera in Kazan. In December he will appear alongside Ekaterina Semenchuk in recital at Bolshoi Theater Minsk and in June will make his highly anticipated debut with Sinfonia Varsovia. On the concert podium he will also appear with Zagreb Philharmonic, Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra and Serbian Radio Orchestra.
Past Orchestral appearances have included the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Toscanini Philharmonic, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, Trondheim Orchestra, Lamoureux Symphony Orchestra, Wiener Kammerorchester,St Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, Petersburg State Capella Symphony orchestra, Baku, Astana, Bishkek, Kaliningrad, Zagreb and Moldova Philharmonics, Slovak Chamber Orchestra, Turkey Presidential and Lithuania Symphony Orchestras, the Athens Orchestra, Lodz Philharmonic, Baltic Philharmonics, State Capella and Hermitage orchestras in St.-Petersburg, the State Symphony orchestra of Azerbaijan, as well as orchestras of the Mariinsky Theatre, Belarus Bolshoi Theatre, Belgrade National Opera, Kiev State Opera, Tashkent Opera. He also appeared at the Vancouver International Music Festival, Klassz a Parton International Music Festival Budapest, Tagliacozzo Music Festival, Immling Festival and Bad Endorf International Opera Festival.
Ayyub Guliyev graduated from the Baku Musical Academy (2005) majoring in conducting (class of Y. Adigezalov), and continued his postgraduate education at St Petersburg State Conservatory. From 2008 to 2010 he perfected his conducting skills under Prof. Mark Stringer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and under Prof. Johannes Schlaefli at the European Music Academy in the Czech Republic.
