Biography

Не is born in Sofia, he carried out his studies in his city under the guidance of Konstantin Karapetrov.

He won the Iris Idami Corradetti Competition in Padua, as well as the Verdi Prize at the Belvedere Competion in Vienna.

In 2001, at the age of twenty-one, he was admitted to the Academy of La Scala, where he studied with Leyla Gencer, Luciana Serra, Luigi Alva and Teresa Berganza. During the first year he sang with Plácido Domingo e Olga Borodina in Samson et Dalila.

In a few years he debuted many roles of the operatic repertoire, among which are particularly interesting Oberto (Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio), Don Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Escamillo (Carmen) and Colline (La Bohéme), that he performed in the most important opera houses in Italy and worldwide.

His Mozartian roles are also to be remembered: Don Giovanni and Leporello in “Don Giovanni” and Figaro in “Le Nozze di Figaro”, as well as the Donizetti roles of Don Pasquale and Dulcamara in “L’Elisir d’amore”.

He also contended with many characters of the Romantic and Bel Canto repertoire, where the peculiar beauty and nobility of his singing fully express themselves. Among these, Sir Giorgio in “I Puritani”, Oroveso in “Norma” and Capellio in “I Capuleti e i Montecchi”.

During his career, the particular characteristics of his voice allowed him to take on many roles of the Verdian repertoire as well: Attila, Zaccaria in “Nabucco”, Filippo II in “Don Carlo”, Massimiliano in “I Masnadieri”, il Re and Ramfis in “Aida”, Sparafucile in “Rigoletto”, Ferrando in “Il Trovatore”, Fiesco in “Simon Boccanegra”, Alvise in “La Gioconda”.

Within the Italian repertoire of the ‘900, he successfully performed Colline in “La Bohème”, Timur in “Turandot”, Angelotti in “Tosca”.

On the concert platform, he sang Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Mozart’s Coronation Mass in honour of the King and Queen of Spain, Beethoven’s Ninth Sypmphony.

He has been a frequent guest of the most important opera houses and festivals, such as Teatro alla Scala, Arena di Verona, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, La Fenice in Venice, Sferisterio Festival in Macerata, Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, Ravenna Festival, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Theater an der Wien, Seattle Opera, West Palm Beach Opera, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Canadian Opera, Amphitheater of Katara in Qatar, Oper Frankfurt, Opéra de Lausanne, Teatro Real de Madrid, Palau de les Arts in Valencia, ABAO Olbe in Bilbao, Opera de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Opera de Tenerife, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

He has worked with some of the foremost conductors, including Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Antonio Pappano, Nicola Luisotti, Daniel Oren, Roberto Abbado, Donato Renzetti, Daniele Gatti, Daniele Callegari, Antonello Allemandi, Gary Bertini, Carlo Franci, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Marcello Viotti, Giuliano Carella, Semyon Bychkov, Yuri Temirkanov, Julian Kovatchev, Patrick Fourniller.

He has recorded for Dynamics Donizetti’s rare opera Ugo, conte di Parigi, where he performs Folco.

Among his recent engagments, Raimondo in Las Palmas, Timur in Bari, Don Basilio in Monte-Carlo, Colline in Perm under the baton of Teodor Currentzis, il Re and Ramfis at Arena di Verona, “Jerusalem” in Parma, “Falstaff” at Teatro Regio di Torino, “Thaïs” at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, “Un Ballo in Maschera” at Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and Bari, “Die Zauberflöte” at Palau de les Arts in Valencia, “Aida” at the Black Sea Arena in Batumi, “Jerusalem” at ABAO OLBE in Bilbao, “Macbeth”, “Carmen” and “Don Carlo” in Varna.

Recently Deyan was singing Weihnachts Oratory with Aalborg Symphony, “Nabucco” in Oviedo, Verdi Requiem and “Aida” in Bulgaria and “Aida” in Teatro Real de Madrid.
