Starting on the 7th of October, we invite you to watch BNT 2’s broadcast of Richard Wagner’s grandiose tetralogy, “Der Ring des Nibelungs”.
The operas were recorded during their premieres in July, 2023 when the impressive Sofia Opera Wagner festival took place. Seven of the German composer’s operas were included in the festival.
The new production of “Der Ring des Nibelungs” is director Plamen Kartaloff’s next masterpiece. “Der Ring” was set for the second time under Kartaloff’s directorship and his mind-blowing vision turned it into yet another masterful take of Richard Wagner’s monumental piece. The production is highly praised by the international press and guests from Europe, USA and Australia attended the festival.
The Sofia Opera’s most famous lead singers performed: Martin Iliev, Tsvetana Bandalovska, Radostina Nikolaeva, Kostadin Andreev, Mariana Tsvetkova, Nikolay Petrov, Gergana Russekova, Petar Buchkov, Daniel Ostretsov, Krassimir Dinev as well as guest singers Yordanka Derilova, Thomas Hall and Christian Cher. Scenography was handled by Hans Kudlich following director Plamen Kartaloff’s vision. Andrew Haidinyak was in charge of artistic lighting. Costume designer was Hristiyana Mihaleva-Zorbalieva.

Filming “Der Ring des Nibelungs” was a huge challenge for the BNT team. For the first time in television history, such a grand performance was filmed, with a length of around sixteen hours total. The best solution regarding camera placement was found so the artists’ performance wasn’t interrupted and so the audience wasn’t disturbed. The camera crew conducted a test filming during the dress rehearsal and had the privilege of receiving the priceless advice of acad. Kartaloff so that the production would be filmed in the most realistic way possible and in line with the director’s vision.

The tetralogy will be broadcast with Bulgarian subtitles on the following dates:
7th and 8th of October, at 23.25: “Das Rheingold”
14th, 15th and 16th of October, at 23.25: “Die Walküre”
21st, 22nd and 23rd of October, at 23.25: “Siegfried”
28th, 29th and 30th of October, at 23.25: “Götterdämmerung”
