The Sofia Opera and Ballet celebrates the 90th anniversary of acad. Vasil Kazandzhiev’s birth

On the 22nd of December, in the Sofia Opera and Ballet Chamber hall, the “Nadezhzda za balet” chamber ballet for piano and three ballerinas by VASIL KAZANDZHIEV will be performed. Choreographer: ARSEN MEHRABYAN; piano: NADEZHDA TSANOVA; the three ballerinas: MARTA PETKOVA, prima ballerina of the Sofia Opera and Ballet, DESISLAVA STOEVA, head dancer of the Swedish royal ballet and ELENA PETROVA, lead dancer at the Sofia Opera and Ballet.

Vasil Kazandzhiev’s conductor career began at the Sofia Opera where from 1957 to 1964 he conducted many contemporary works such as the operas “Hitar Petar” by Veselin Stoyanov, “The Boyana Master” by Konstantin Iliev, “Yana’s Nine Brothers” and “Antigone 43” by Lyubomir Pipkov, the ballets “Orpheus and Rhodope” by Tsvetan Tsvetanov, “The Wooden Prince” by Bela Bartok, “The Three-pointed Hat” by Manuel de Falla and others.
