SOFIA OPERA AND BALLET announces a competition to fill the orchestra

Sofia Opera and Ballet announces a competition for the following positions:

- Concertmaster – 1 place
- Artist-orchestrator – first violin – 1 place
- Artist-orchestrator – double bass – 1 place
- Artist-orchestrator – bassoon, contra bassoon – 1 place

The competition will take place from 10.00 h on 16 October 2024 on the Small Stage at the Sofia Opera and Ballet. The order of appearance will be determined by lot drawn on the day of the competition. All candidates must appear at 9:00 h on the day of the competition at the service entrance of the Opera at 30 Dondukov Blvd.

Eligibility documents:
- Autobiography/CV;
- Original and photocopy of diploma of higher musical education;
- Application for admission to the competition – in accordance with the SOB template;
- Original ID card.

The deadline for submission is Friday 11 October 2024 at the HR Department of the SOB.

Competition materials:

CONCERTMASTER
Materials

1st round (behind the curtain)
- Mozart Concerto No. 4 or 5 (optional), first movement with cadenza
- Johann Sebastian Bach first and second movements (slow and fugue) from one of the three sonatas for solo violin, optional (from 6 sonatas and partitas for solo violin by J.S. Bach), or the Chaconne from the second partita

2nd round (without curtain)
Romantic concerto optional – full, three movements with cadenza where there are orchestral difficulties

3rd round
Solos for violin and orchestra:
- Tchaikovsky "Swan Lake" – 2 solos
- Tchaikovsky "The Sleeping Beauty" – 3 solos
