On 22 January, at the age of 84, Professor Pavel Gerdjikov passed away in Sofia.
He was born on 21 May 1938 in Kardzhali. He graduated from State Academy of Music (1961) and specialized in Berlin.
He made his debut at the Sofia Opera at the age of 23. He has over 100 roles as a soloist. Among them are Figaro in “Le nozze di Figaro”, Papageno in “Die Zauberflöte”, Galitsky in “Prince Igor”. Gerdjikov has directed dozens of productions. He has appeared in the opera theatres in Paris, Vienna, Madrid, Naples, Belgrade, etc.
He is the recipient of a number of state awards. He was awarded the "St. Cyril and Methodius" Order, the "Marin Goleminov" Award, the "Golden Bugle" Award of the Bulgarian National Radio.
Professor Gerdjikov taught acting and opera directing for 50 years at the National Music Academy "Professor Pancho Vladigerov".
