The lovers of opera and ballet will have the possibility to watch performances in the open air at Lake Pancharevo this year too. After the success of the last year’s edition, under conditions of pandemic, the Sofia Opera and Ballet opens for the second time the Summer Festival “Muses of Water”.
With love by the lake starts this year’s edition of the festival. With the cooperation of the Italian Institute of Culture for the first time in Bulgaria will be performed the spectacle “La donna del lago”.
The opera is by Gioachino Rossini, based on the poem of the same name by Sir Walter Scott.
“A repertoire, which is directed and is with a thematic base. This wonderful lake to be recreated in music, in theatre, in acting, in dramaturgy. So that “La donna del lago” is this title – mysterious, mystic, which carries real energy”, shared before Bulgaria ON AIR the stage director Plamen Kartaloff.
After long rehearsals and a year spent in expectation, the soprano Maria Radoeva will perform the lead role of Elena. The action takes place in Scotland in the XVI century under King James V, whose heart is captive of Elena’s beauty.
“This opera has all emotions – from most lyric to most dramatic fireworks in vocal, as well as in stage aspect”, shared Maria Radoeva.
Elena’s heart, however, belongs to Malcolm, who is ready to cross swards with the most influential man in Scotland, in order to safeguard their love. In the role of Malcolm, however, enters not a man, but a woman – the opera singer with experience in the male repertoire Violeta Radomirska.
“In the first place, it is of no importance in what a role you impersonate yourself, for us this is a chance, after this long period of restrictions, to be on the stage, to be in contact with music. It is known to me, it is pleasant for me, it is different, it is a challenge”, pointed out Violeta Radomirska.
The project is part of the programme “Opera in the Park” to Sofia Municipality. “Muses of Water” will continue till 17 September. A part of the programme, which unites in itself opera, ballet and musical, are the spectacles “Swan Lake”, “Mamma mia!”, “Shrek”, “Carmen” and others.
