Dear opera friends!

Today we open the greatest event of the 2023/2024 season of the Sofia Opera and Ballet – Sofia Opera Wagner Festival!

Five titles will capture the attention of audiences from Bulgaria and around the world in six festival evenings.

We begin on 13 June with the premiere of "Lohengrin" – a stunning vision in staging and set design, with exceptional costumes and lighting. The second performance is on 23 June.

We continue with our theatre's calling card – "Der Ring des Nibelungen" with the operas "Das Rheingold", "Die Walküre", "Siegfried" and "Götterdämmerung", which will be performed on 15, 16, 18 and 20 June. You will see something truly impressive and created with a dizzying flight of fancy.

We have fantastic Bulgarian soloists worthy of any great theatre in the world. They are joined by our dear guests Simon O'Neill, Aris Argiris, Bjartni Thor Kristinsson and Krisztián Cser.

We have an outstanding orchestra and chorus, as well as the BNR Male Choir.

We also have incredible conductors: the world-class maestro Constantin Trinks and the remarkable Evan-Alexis Christ, who will conduct five performances in the festival programme.

The Wagner Festival is the result of the tireless work and efforts of many people – the production team, soloists, orchestra, chorus, assistant and associate directors, technical services and studios, marketing and publicity, administration.

We were all involved in the "Wagner adventure" by Acad. Plamen Kartalov - a man with unstoppable energy, with an innovative vision, with scope and scale in his thinking, a director with stunning achievements, a driver of the modern and big ideas.
