The world opera day was founded by Opera Europa, the International music theatres association which includes over two hundred opera theaters from forty-three different countries, including the Sofia Opera.

If you’re wondering why the holiday is on the 25th of October, it is because on this day Georges Bizet and Johan Strauss (son) are born. The two of them have composed perhaps the most famous opera and operetta in the world.
