The operas "Cavalleria rusticana" by Pietro Mascagni and "Gianni Schicchi" by Giacomo Puccini return to the Sofia Opera.
They can be seen one after the other in 2 evenings – on 28 and 30 October. Conductor is Grigor Palikarov, director – Plamen Kartaloff.
Of Mascagni's 16 operas, "Cavalleria rusticana" is the most popular. The first performance was given at Teatro Costanzi in Rome on 17 May 1918. This time the audience will be able to watch it with the special participation of Alexandrina Pendatchanska in the role of Santuzza.
"This is the stage around which I grew up since I was a small child, I ran backstage during my mother Valerie Popova's rehearsals. This is the stage where I took my first steps as a singer," the opera soprano told Radio Sofia.
For the first time, she sang "Cavalleria rusticana" in 2017 in a co-production between Covent Garden and the Belgian La Monnaie Theatre.
"Then it happened to be my 70th role. I will perform it for the first time in Bulgaria and I am happy," Pendatchanska also said.
Lilia Goleminova is talking with her.
