Acad. Kartaloff: There must be no temptations to make mimicry of creative work – Bulgarian National Radio

We gave as present to the audience our online spectacles, shared the Maestro

“In the weeks of state of emergency, we gave as present to the audience our online spectacles”. This said before the Bulgarian National Radio the Director of the Sofia Opera and Ballet Acad. Plamen Kartaloff and clarified that over 500 thousand spectators were watching these operas, ballets and concerts.

After Maestro Kartaloff’s words, the difficulties are motivation for coping with all kind of problems. He pointed out that the Sofia Opera is ready to start with three productions:

“Elektra” by Richard Strauss, the ballet “1001 Nights” by Fikret Amirov and “The Queen of Spades” by Tchaikovsky. But they will have a stage life, when we open the main hall for the audience. But we are ready”.

In the broadcast “Something More” Acad. Kartaloff explained that again are planned spectacles in the open air of the Sofia Opera, which at the moment are being clarified, in order to be met all requirements of the sanitary measures.

“The art of the opera is a team work. One ensemble of soloists, chorus, orchestra and ballet includes ca. 200 persons on the stage, by adding behind the curtain some 100-150 more persons, plus the production ateliers – this is a whole fabric for unique phenomena and objects”.

After the Maestro’s words, the artists will sign a declaration for voluntary participation, no one will be forced to appear on the stage:

“People must be convinced that they go into a battle with their fear, with themselves. But there must be no temptations to make mimicry of creative work. I am most afraid of that”.

The Director of the Sofia Opera and Ballet said that next week, after the compulsory break, all artistic teams will go back to work and he would talk with every one of his colleagues – soloists, chorus, orchestra, ballet, technique – to see how they feel to be at disposal.

“The spectacles, which we define, and there are such ones with fewer participants, to see what will be the economic effect – for us ourselves, and also how the audience will feel itself”, indicated Acad. Kartaloff and he clarified that it is very important to cover the expenses, because besides the salaries, which are granted by the state, it has to be analysed also what will be the sense to perform spectacles, if the spectators are 150-200 or 300 persons. He pointed out that some of their spectacles in the open air have gathered till 2000 persons.

“We shall estimate very wisely what are the benefits and the losses from one such devotion of ours to our duty to exercise our profession”, declared Maestro Kartaloff.
