Revolutionary pathos, barricades, marvellous artists and audience, which defined the spectacle as “Shaking!”
Last night at the Sofia Opera and ballet took place the premiere of the best-known musical in the world – “Les Misérables”, to music by the composer Claude-Michel Schönberg and libretto by Alain Boublil. Its triumph continues four decades, and since yesterday Sofia has turned into the new European destination for its admirers.

After the enormous success of “Mamma Mia!”, our first opera theatre presented a new hit title and included in its repertoire during this season the most popular musical in the world – “Les Misérables”, created on the basis of Victor Hugo’s homonymous novel.

The large-scale production is the deed of the stage director Plamen Kartaloff, who has staged the most successful musicals in Bulgaria, among which “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Sunset Boulevard”, “Mamma Mia!”, “The Phantom of the Opera”. With it he made his dream from 1987 come true, when for the first time he was given the rights by the producer Cameron Mackintosh, but the lack of means stopped the project. 32 years later, the Bulgarian premiere is already a fact.

In the Friday evening the Sofia audience applauded on their feet more than 20 minutes the wonderful acting and vocal performances of the actor and musician Vladi Mihaylov (Jean Valjean), the pop singer Orlin Pavlov (Inspector Javert), the jazz, pop and musical singer Vesela Delcheva (Fantine), the actor Nikolay Sotirov (Bishop), the delightful young and talented Ani Vutova (Cosette).

Impressive was the presentation of the entire cast, among which Madame et Monsieur Thénardier, performed by Yuliana Todorova and Plamen Granjean, as well as the musical’s most little stars – the 8-year-old Anton Petrov – in the role of Gavroche and the 10-year-old Anzhelina Dencheva – in the role of Cosette as a child.

The exalted audience defines the musical as “Shaking!”, “Strongly influencing!”, “Emotional!”, “Touching the hearts and the souls!”, “Raising the spirit!”, “Giving hope!”...

The next performances of “Les Misérables” at the Sofia Opera are on: 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13 December 2019 at 11 h and 19 h, and on 9, 10, 11, 12 January 2020 at 19 h.
For organized visits of students for the morning performances there is a preferential price of BGN 15.
