One of the most legendary opera singers of our time José Carreras accepted the invitation of the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music to be awarded the title “Doctor Honoris Causa” – the highest distinction of the prestigious educational institution.

The special ceremony will take place by Carreras’ arrival for his last concert in Sofia on 11 May at the Arena Armeec Hall, with which the great performer will bid farewell to the Bulgarian audience. The Rector of the National Academy of Music Prof. Dr. Dimitar Tsanev will hand out the distinction to Maestro Carreras.

In José Carreras’ concert will tale part more than 120 persons: stage, technical and music team. Among them in particular key will be the role of the young tenor Rosen Nenchev and the soprano Iliana Mihaylova, who will stand on the stage side by side with Carreras and will perform together with him the most popular arias, with which the world-known tenor has won an eternal place in the classical constellation of opera music. The symphonic part will be performed by the Orchestra of the Sofia Opera and Ballet, selected by Carreras himself among several orchestras in Bulgaria because of its rich experience in the performance of opera music in Bulgaria and abroad.
