On Maundy Thursday, 25 April, Nadia Krasteva will take part in Verdi’s “Requiem” on the stage of the Sofia Opera. The mezzo-soprano shared what means for her this work of art by the great Italian?
- Verdi’s “Requiem” is not only one of the most beautiful and most often performed ecclesiastical works of the 19th century, even to this day, but it is also one of my most favourite works of art. So moving, beautiful, shaking the soul music. Not by chance this Requiem is called Verdi’s “best opera”. I had the honour to take part in concert performances of this work, for example at the Verdi Festival in Parma under the baton of Riccardo Muti, as well as in the St. Peter Cathedral in Riga, at the Eisteddfod Festival in Cardiff and at Musikverein in Graz. I expect with impatience the meeting with the Sofia audience and I wish from the bottom of my heart this divine music to bring to everyone in the hall light in the soul and blessing!
