From 13 to 23 June the Sofia Opera House opens its doors for a fantastic Wagner Festival, which includes the premiere of “Lohengrin” and the tetralogy “Der Ring des Nibelungen”.
Six festival nights await with the haunting music of Richard Wagner and the spectacular directorial vision of Plamen Kartaloff.
Conductors will be Constantin Trinks and Evan-Alexis Christ.
Today we introduce you to Icelandic bass Bjarni Thor Kristinsson, who will embody the role of Hunding in “Die Walküre” on 16 June. Growing up in a small fishing village in Iceland, he played the flute and sang in a children's choir as a child. He studied in Reykjavik and Vienna. Bjarni Thor Kristinsson has a huge international career.
He has sung in a number of major opera houses, including the Vienna Opera, Salzburg, the Rome Opera, Berlin, Barcelona, Tokyo, Venice and Chicago. His repertoire ranges from Mozart operas to major Wagner roles.
