On 29 December 100 years have passed since the birth of the legend of Bulgarian ballet – the prima ballerina Lili Beron (1921 – 1996).
She belongs to one golden ballet generation, part of which are Valya Verbeva, Lyuba Kolchakova, Penka Encheva ...
Lili Beron began studying with the founders of Bulgarian ballet Pesho Radoev and Anastas Petrov. Later she specialized in Paris with Lyubov Yegorova and danced in the troupe of “Ballet de la jeunesse”.
She studied ballet pedagogy at the Leningrad Choreography School.
A constellation of Bulgarian ballet artists are her students, among which Krasimira Koldamova, Kalina Bogoeva, Margarita Trayanova, Tsveta Djumalieva.
Lili Beron danced on the stage of the National Opera and Ballet ca. 30 years, where with her aristocratic and unique charisma, she personified masterly the roles of Giselle (“Giselle”), Odette – Odile (“Swan Lake”), Esmeralda (“La Esmeralda”), Taï-Choa (“The Red Poppy”).
Whatever we say about the great ballerina, it won’t be enough, but one thing is sure – her place in our national ballet history is exceptionally important, and without her the Bulgarian ballet wouldn’t be what it is today.
Let’s remember her!
